So Guys lets talk about possibility of becoming dental hygienist/therapist in UK.First of all,YES its possible as a lot of you are not sure whether its possible or not.I am saying this because I myself is a GDC registered dental therapist.

So,I started the procedure while studying for ORE 2.

You have to start by login to your eGdc account and go to applications and click on “Register as DCP”,it will lead to a questionnaire, after filling and submitting you will be contacted by GDC through email in couple of days and will send you an application pack consisting of different documents. Now this application pack is same for both hygienist and therapist registration except 1 thing that is learning outcome form.

Now this learning outcome form is different for both of them .If you want to go for hygienist registration fill the learnig outcome form for hygienist and same goes for therapist.

NOTE:There are two learning outcomes forms included in application pack ,names are written on both so choose accordingly. All other documents are same.

The reason for 2 different forms are the scope of practice.Therapist can do additional restorative work so additional questions are included in learning outcome form. The documents included are:

    1.DCP assessment form.

    2.Learning outcome form for hygienist.

    3.Learning outcome form for therapist.

4.Professional references form(You can add as much references as you want just print it )

    5.Good standing form.

Now after you submit your application, it will take 4 months for assessment as it will be seen by assessment panel,so it took me 6 months to get registration .2 months for all this paperwork and 4 for assessment.NOW after 1 month of submission you will get an email from gdc confirming your application is complete or not and if complete it is ready to be presented to the panel but if its not complete which means either some document is lacking or whatever the reason is)they will give you some time to complete it or send it back to you and you have to submit again. So in order to avoid any inconvenience the best thing is to make sure everything is complete.
